When it comes to school facilities and campuses, nothing is more important than the security and safety of your students and staff. Schools and colleges today face a host of potential emergency and crisis situations that go far beyond the standard fire drill (where it is done). Traditional measures and mentalities are not adequate anymore.
In Uganda, there have been several cases of fire incidents in schools and colleges leaving behind lots of charred bodies and properties besides damaged buildings. According to police reports/statistics, there were at least 95 cases of fire incidents in schools all over the country between April 7, 2008 to March 11, 2009. In the months of January, February, and March 2009 at least seven schools and six markets were set on fire with varying degrees of damage. Kibibi Secondary School in Mpigi, Masaka Islamic School and Kakungulu Memorial School both in Masaka, Maracha Secondary School in Maracha District which was burnt twice, Kingsway School on Entebbe Rd in Wakiso, Pariet Preparatory Mixed School in Kitintale Kampala and Kikondwa Primary School in Kabwoya, Hoima district. The most notable being the Budo Junior fire that left 19 pupils dead.
